Each child, to whom the Education Welfare Act applies (that is, those between the ages of 6 and 15) is obliged by law to attend school every day on which the school is operation unless there is a reasonable excuse for not attending. The school authorities are obliged to notify the National Educational Welfare Board when a child is absent in excess of 20 days. Furthermore, where a child is absent from school, the parent of the child is required under the Act to notify the principal of the school of the reasons for the child’s absence.
